A group of nuns from the Plum Village Practice Center in Thailand, disciples of the late Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh, are currently in Thimphu to participate in the ongoing Global Peace Prayers. Known for their mindfulness and teachings on compassion and peace, the Plum Village nuns expressed heartfelt admiration for Bhutan’s rich spiritual heritage.
During the prayers, the nuns learned for the first time about Khandro Dorje Phagmo, one of the most revered female masters in the Vajrayana Buddhist tradition. Seeing Khandro Rinpoche in person deeply moved them, and they expressed their wish to meet and learn more about her spiritual path and practices.
The meeting took place at the Dorje Phagmo Wishdom Center, located at Central Plaza, Olakha, Thimphu, where the nuns had an engaging and meaningful interaction with Khandro Rinpoche. Their discussion centered on mindfulness, compassion, and the importance of genuine spiritual practice in daily life.
Khandro Rinpoche emphasized that in the modern age, human greed and material pursuit have disturbed the deities and disrupted the natural balance of the four elements—earth, water, fire, and wind. She stressed the importance of continuous practice and highlighted the significance of the Tara Jibchobma (Life-Giving Tara) practice, which restores vitality, purifies the elements, and invokes Tara’s compassionate energy for peace and healing.
The encounter beautifully reflected the connection between the mindfulness path of Plum Village and the Vajrayana lineage of Dorje Phagmo, symbolizing unity among Buddhist traditions and a shared commitment to promoting peace, balance, and compassion in the world.
